About The Light Fund
The Light Fund is the licensing industry's umbrella charitable body that raises funds for specific charity projects covering children, women and men.
Since its inception The Light Fund has raised well over £150,000 for a number of charities including The Children's Trust, Cancer Backup, The Orchid Trust and Prostate Cancer Care.
The Light Fund was set up four years ago, spearheaded by Max Publishing directors Jakki Brown and Ian Hyder. Together with a group of like-minded people from the licensing and greeting card industry they set about raising funds for specific charity projects covering the Children, women and men.
Everyone gives their time for nothing and there are no admin charges - meaning all the money we raise goes direct to the causes. Amongst the great causes supported by The Light Fund are:
The Children's Trust Hospital in Tadworth - where it paid for specialist equipment for its new brain injury unit for severely sick children.
The Orchid Trust - where it has funded the production of Know Your Balls, a DVD on testicular cancer as well as a resource pack for schools and colleges.
Prostate Cancer Care - where it funded a helpline nurse training as well as a workshop facilitated by The Cancer Counselling Trust for helpline nurses and enabled four nurses to complete the 'Foundations in Cancer Care' course at the Royal Marsden Hospital.
The Honeypot Trust - is a charity that provides respite holidays for disadvantaged children as well as for children who are carers for their parents. The Light Fund is paying for half the cost of putting a roof on the Honeypot¹s Trust house¹s outdoor swimming pool.
Cancer Backup - is an information and communications charity resource covering all cancers. It runs two helpline offices (In London and Glasgow) as well as centres in eight different hospitals up and down the country. The Light Fund will cover the 2008 training costs for all of Cancer Backup¹s 28-30 nurses who work in its eight nationwide centres and two helpline offices.
We raise the funds through organising impressive raffles and auctions at Max Publishing's industry awards events (The Henries, The Licensing Awards, The Retas and The Greats). These mega nights are attended by retailers, manufacturers and those from the licensing industry. We also organise an annual, legendary Quiz Night in London each Autumn and this year will hold another Quiz Night event in Manchester on April 17. In addition, in May 2008 a foolhardy (but fit) team will be undertaking to swim around Malta and its neighbouring islands in order to raise funds for The Light Fund.
We are in the throes of finalising the projects The Light Fund's 2007 fundraising efforts will fund, but they will benefit The Children's Trust, Cancer Backup, Orchid Trust and Honeypot Trust.
